About two weeks ago I got wind of a secret fashion week show at Milk Studios with two acts I was keen on photographing: Metric and Patti Smith. Having shot in that space before, I knew I needed to go. SPIN supported my need. Metric has been one of my favorite bands for the past few years and I’ve caught them playing everything from massive festivals to intimate acoustic gigs. Patti Smith, however, I’ve always missed. After her performance at the LNA Clothing party, I’ll try not to miss her again.
It was a bit of a drunken shitshow, if I may say so myself. A 4 hour open bar on opening day of Fashion Week + the day that one of the most influential designers of our day killed himself = a recipe for disaster. Despite the blood alcohol content of those around me, however, the show was stellar. I couldn’t have asked for much more other than a few more songs by each act – I think they both did 6 songs – but what we got was great. I can’t wait for both of these acts to come around again!
Also, Metric likes the color blue.
