Last night was an event close to my heart. It was a benefit concert put on by my good friend Spencer Keasey Scanlon in memory of his sister, Gillian, who was a victim of domestic abuse. Spencer worked on putting this show together for a long time, and that hard worked paid off as he was able to raise over $3000 for Safe Horizon. I wanted to show my support and help out any way I could, so I documented the night the only way I know how.
Though I missed the first band, No Place, I was able to catch the other 5. I didn’t know all of them, but I was excited to see a few friends play: Christopher Paul Stelling is easily one of my favorite upcoming songwriters; Sebastian Krueger, known as Inlets, is a fantastic musician who will put out one of my favorite albums of 2010; Alex Drewchin, one of the most breathtaking female voices you’ll hear anywhere, played with one of her many bands, Lagoon. The whole night rocked, and Spencer deserves a big pat on the back.
If you couldn’t make it, but still want to make a difference, you can donate directly to Safe Horizon. It’s worth it.
Also, the new installation at Glasslands is sweet. That’s what the cloud/fire thing in the background is. So for once, even shooting in the complete dark there was kind of rewarding.
