As you know from last week’s Class Actress portraits, I spent my Thursday night at Highline Ballroom. It was a trifecta of gorgeous women performing stellar material.
First up was Alexa Wilding, a songwriter on the rise. I’ve been friends with Alexa for several years, and it’s exciting to see her beginning to get the praise she deserves. I’m excited to hear what she’s got in 2010.
Next was Class Actress, an extremely promising trio led by Elizabeth Harper. Back in November they were named “Rising” by Pitchfork, and their debut EP is not to be ignored. Hopefully we’ll hear a full length from them this year.
And headlining was Au Revoir Simone. The trio of ladies were one of the first groups I shot live back in May of 2007. My, how time flies. Recently I saw one of the ladies, Annie Hart, with her other project, Uninhabitable Mansions, when they opened for The Antlers at Bowery Ballroom. Thursday night was a different aesthetic, however, as lighting master Will Armstrong took the reigns and made it snow on stage. Really. All in all, a pretty great night.
